Padley Gorge in autumn

In the above photograph the water is stained by peat picked up from the Derbyshire moors.

If you catch the waters after heavy rain when they are peat-stained the water is dark brown and in these conditions there is less contrast between the water and the rocks allowing the exposure to be biased towards the rocks.

The end result is that the rocks are lighter and more detailed and the water to be slightly overexposed which gives a peachy effect to the water rather than brown

Padley Gorge in the Derbyshire Peak District is a favorite place of mine. It is a place that is ever changing and offers a wealth of photographic opportunities throughout the seasons.
